Here’s everything we know about Quarterback season 2.

‘Let’s run it back.’

It’s a popular expression in American sports, particularly in the NFL.

And it appears that’s what streaming giant Netflix is up to with its hit docu-series Quarterback.

It’s the show that caused such a stir, the NBA now wants in as well.

Hall of Fame QB Peyton Manning is the high-profile producer behind the cameras, which has ensured it’s a worthy watch — whether you’re a hardcore football fan or an entry-level sports enthusiast.

So here’s what we know about Quarterback Season 2.

Is there a Quarterback season 2?

It’s a soft ‘yes’, but there’s still no definitive confirmation.

Season 2 will happen, but it’s been a real struggle searching for willing participants.

“Season 2 has been greenlit by Netflix, we’re excited, we’re hoping for more quarterbacks, it’s easier to say yes,” Manning announced recently.

“I don’t want to hear ‘It’s going to be a distraction’ because that’s not true, Patrick Mahomes proved that, Kirk Cousins proved that, Marcus, the way he handled that, proved that.”

Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes was one of the frontmen for season 1 of Quarterback, in a Super Bowl-winning campaign no less.

Who will be featured in season 2?

Matthew Stafford*

*Others not confirmed

‘Who’ is obviously the biggest question we want answered next.

So far, per reports, Rams superstar Matthew Stafford is the only confirmed name. He’s coming off an injury-interrupted season, which followed LA’s championship-winning campaign in 2021-22.

The Rams’ season has contained ups and downs to this point, with chatter he was mic’d up for their season-opener with Seattle — a game they defied the odds to win.

Amon-Ra St. Brown?*

*Not a quarterback, not confirmed

There are rumblings Detroit’s star pass-catcher, who we recently rated inside the NFL’s top 10 receivers, has had NFL Films following him this season. What that looks like and whether it is, in fact, related to Netflix’s hit show Quarterback, we’ll have to wait and see.

If St. Brown is included in Season 2, you’d have to think his QB Jared Goff is getting dragged into it, too. Plenty of audience has seen Goff up close and personal on the 2016 Pre-Season edition of Hard Knocks.

The struggle to find QBs for a Season 2

Manning and the show’s production army have found it tough landing willing participants for the follow-up season, with fears from teams and players that having additional cameras following them around is an unnecessary distraction.

It’s a concern Manning, a former star signal-caller himself, doesn’t share.

“We’re hoping that guys after seeing it say this is going to be a cool thing that I can show to my kids when I’m older, show to my grandkids one day,” he said about the show.

“Hopefully the pitch will be easier.”

We’re all still searching for breadcrumbs as to who the other season 2 stars will be.

Who won’t be featured?

This list is a little longer.

Patrick Mahomes has confirmed he won’t be returning.

“I’m not planning on doing this upcoming season. I’m going to try to let other people have a chance at it, but it’s definitely something I’m open to doing further down the line,” Mahomes shared on a local Kansas City radio station.

“I think it’d be out of what the show wants to entail in showing different perspectives if I did back-to-back years.

“We’ll let some other guys get out there and maybe later in my career I’ll hop back on there.”

Trevor Lawrence, Dak Prescott, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Fields, Geno Smith and Jalen Hurts have reportedly all turned down offers to feature on the show.

NFL 2023, season preview, dates, contenders
Hurts, Justin Herbert, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow would all be awesome gets for season 2 of Quarterback.

Who should be featured?

Mahomes and Vikings’ Kirk Cousins were both excellent gets on the debut season — particularly viewers learning what they didn’t know about Minnesota’s QB.

It means we’re not necessarily craving the sport’s most high-profile players, but merely guys with a bit of personality and an interesting story.

Drama in an NFL season is guaranteed; the names aren’t quite as important.

That said, Marcus Mariota wasn’t great TV — he was the third quarterback featured in season 1.

When will Quarterback S2 be released?

June-August sometime

It’ll drop on the streaming giant in America’s summer, in the slow build-up to next NFL season.

Quarterback season 2 trailer

Not yet — still too many details to finalise. But if you missed season 1, here’s a taste of what to expect.

What happened in the first season?

Netflix’s first season of Quarterback proved to be a major success, diving deep into the day-to-day existence of three star NFL signal-callers.

Mahomes, Cousins and Mariota has mixed seasons — from winning Super Bowls to suffering injuries and losing the starting job.

Plenty went down in the opening season and we can’t wait for more.
