These style shows are all the rage these days, of course. There’s seemingly a new announcement every week or two. So what sets this series apart?
Let’s assess whether this one’s going to be worth the watch when it drops later this year.
What is Quarterback?
Netflix claims the show will take viewers ‘inside the huddle’.
“The NFL is giving unprecedented access to its top players for the new docu-series Quarterback, as part of a first-of-its-kind partnership between the league and Netflix,” it said in the streaming platform’s release.
It will look to give fans unprecedented access to the happenings of playing quarterback at the professional level; literally on the field – what they see and hear, in the locker rooms, meeting rooms and film rooms. Plus on top of that, cameras will follow them home to give us all a really thorough understanding of how these incredibly rich and brilliantly talented freaks of nature live their lives.
When will Quarterback be released?
JULY 12, 2023

Netflix had previously confirmed it was due out in summer 2023 (American summer), mid-year. And they’ve delivered on that promise
Who is involved in Quarterback?
The series will centre around NFL quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota – who were all mic’d up for the entirety of the NFL season.
Considering Mahomes’ season ended in a legacy-defining second Super Bowl victory, his part of the docu-series will be particularly captivating.
“I’m excited for fans to get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at an unforgettable season for the entire Chiefs organisation and for my family,” Mahomes told Netflix. “From welcoming home a new baby in the middle of the season to welcoming the Lombardi trophy back to Kansas City, our crew was there for it all. This new Netflix series will show the time, preparation and balance that it takes to be an NFL quarterback and perform on the biggest stage.”

Legend quarterback Peyton Manning is one of the docu-series’ executive producers, which frankly seems like a match made in heaven. The two-time Super Bowl winner is not only one of the greatest quarterbacks we’ve ever seen, but has made a real fist of his post-retirement career already.
Manning is well-liked as a former player with a genuine sense of humour; notably his work breaking down Monday Night Football the last couple of years with brother Eli – on the Manning Cast – has been a top notch live sport experience. He’ll be sure to take the narratives into good areas.
Is there a trailer?
There sure is; hot off the press as of June 14. Here it is.
Which other sporting docuseries are out there right now?
Quarterback adds to a laundry list of other sporting docos that have been released, or are in the works. It truly has never been a better time to be a sports fan.
In addition to a new season of Drive to Survive, Netflix has also launched Break Point and Full Swing — docos on tennis and golf, respectively — this year, with more about the Tour De France and 2022 FIFA World Cup still to come.
