Erling Haaland has taken less than one season to claim the outright EPL scoring record

Erling Haaland’s debut campaign is truly something to behold.

He’s well and truly proven his worth in season one at Manchester City, setting a new Premier League scoring record for the most goals. He is now top of the Premier League scorers list.

Haaland bested the 38-game mark in a big spot against Arsenal on Tuesday morning, scoring the last goal in a 4-1 victory against the team on the top of the table.

The latest development is that his game-sealing chip against West Ham United on May four has propelled him to outright top.

Haaland breaks single-season Premier League scoring record

Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland has scored 36 goals in the 2022/23 season (so far). It will go down as the most prolific scoring season of all time, now regardless of the total games.

Haaland goes past Andy Cole (34 goals, 1993/94), who achieved that scoring record in a 42-game season.

Premier League scoring record: How is Haaland doing it?

To break the record with seven games to spare, you have to be scoring goals at a freakish rate, and that’s exactly what Haaland has been doing. The 22-year-old Norwegian is scoring one goal per 90 minutes and one goal every 77 minutes.

He is (obviously) the Golden Boot leader in the Premier League, as well as in the Champions League where he has scored 12 goals in 11 games. He has broken a club record of 52 goals across all games at Man City this season.

Single-season Premier League scoring record rankings

The 38-game, single-season Premier League scoring record was previously held by Liverpool’s Mo Salah, who scored a whopping 32 goals in the 2017/18 season and held the record for a solid five years.

From the 42-game Premier League era, the overall goal scorer record was held by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer; scoring 34 goals in 1993/94 and 1994/94 respectively. But with still games remaining, Haaland has taken over.

After a stunning first season in the Premier League, Haaland is off to a flying start (33*) to try his luck at breaking the overall record for most Premier League goals scored by a single player.
