Cheers Sports Bar & Grill, Sydney

Address: 561 George St, Sydney NSW 2000

We’re kicking this list off with the magnum opus of Sydney sports bars, Cheers Bar. If you’re looking for a community atmosphere for the most die-hard fans, look no further than Cheers Bar in the heart of the CBD.

Taffy’s, Neutral Bay

118 Military Road, Neutral Bay 2089

It’s one of the newest venues on this list, but don’t hold that against this place.

Bar Sport, Leichhardt

2A Norton St, Leichhardt NSW 2040

Okay this one technically isn’t a bar, but it’s worth an inclusion anyway. If you’re keen to grab a bite to eat and watch the football, but you’re not keen on a boozy night, Bar Sport could be the place for you.

This Italian cafe in Leichhardt offers traditional Italian food and coffee to keep your hunger at bay while you’re watching the football on the big screen. The food is good, the coffee is good and the vibes? Immaculate.

Cricketers Arms Hotel

106 Fitzroy Street, Surry Hills NSW 2010

Located just a stone’s throw away from Sydney’s beloved SCG, it’s no shocker that the Cricketer’s Arms Hotel is one of Sydney’s best sports bars. This establishment is a regular go-to for post-match drinks, whether you’re a fan of the Sydney Swans, the Sydney Roosters or Sydney FC.

But even if you can’t get tickets to the game, you can watch along at the Cricketer’s Arms and still immerse yourself in the experience.

The Chippo Hotel

87-91 Abercrombie St, Chippendale NSW 2008

The Chippo knows how to put on a party; it’s a leading venue for music and comedy. But when they branch out and do sport, they do that well, too.

The Chippo hosts one of the meanest Super Bowl parties in Sydney – you can book here.

Coogee Bay Hotel, Coogee

253 Coogee Bay Rd, Coogee NSW 2034

If you’re looking for the best sports bar in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, look no further than the Coogee Bay Hotel. You can enjoy the sea breeze while watching your favourite sport on a cinema-sized screen.

If, for some strange reason, the two huge TVs outside don’t tickle your fancy, you’re in luck because there are more than 15 screens across the venue to choose from. Basically, you’d be hard pressed to find a corner of the venue that doesn’t give you a good view of the game.

The Courthouse, Newtown

202 Australia St, Newtown NSW 2042

If you’re in the market for wholesome pub vibes, a hearty meal and some loud sport, look no further than Newtown’s beloved Courty. When your eyes aren’t glued to the TV, you can also enjoy a breath of fresh air in the courtyard, or a game of pool.

The Courty is a go-to for the Swans fans of the inner-west.

24/7 Sports Bar at The Star, Pyrmont

80 Pyrmont St, Pyrmont NSW 2009

This is particularly a good choice if you’re with a bunch of friends who want to watch multiple games at once because they have enough screens to stream it all, whether you’re keen on the AFL, NFL, premier league or rugby league.

Chubbs, Brookvale

42 Winbourne Rd, Brookvale NSW 2100

One of the only sports-focused licensed venues on the Northern Beaches, Chubbs heavily leans into a US sports vibe that will get your blood pumping a little harder on arrival.

It’s located in Brookvale’s industrial area, conveniently close to the Manly Sea Eagles’ Brookvale Oval.

Chubbs is heavily stocked with wall-to-wall memorabilia; any diehard fan needs to drop in for a visit.

East Village Athletic Club, Darlinghurst

234 Palmer St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010

If we gave out points for aesthetics, East Village Athletic Club would win by a country mile. This bar is slick.

The bar is decked out with leather seats and timber detailing throughout, with a luxurious bespoke poker table. Not to mention, an extensive selection of booze to choose from.

But don’t let the fancy looks fool you, East Village still hits the spot where it counts, playing everything from the tennis to the UFC and everything in between.
