Over 11 million people participate in Fantasy Premier League. The 2023/24 season will be no different. Every participant has their own individual plan when it comes to rising above the field, each bringing their own varying levels of success.

And while there is no one sure-fire method, selecting any and all of these eight players (two in each position) will go a long way in helping you win your fantasy football league.

8 must have players: Who to pick in Fantasy Premier League

Alisson, Liverpool (£5.5) | Goalkeeper

With 162 points last season, Alisson was the second highest scoring goalkeeper through FPL 22/23. Amazingly, on top of 14 clean sheets, Liverpool’s number one managed to grab a single assist over his 37 starts last year. With an average FPL return of 155 points in his five seasons and a solid Liverpool defence in front of him, Alisson can’t be left out of your side.

Mark Flekken, Brentford (£4.5) | Goalkeeper

But, if you were to opt for someone other than the Brazilian look no further then Dutch keeper, Mark Flekken. While the former Freiburg man is yet to kick a ball in the Premier League the man he is set to replace in goal for Brentford, David Raya, was FPL 22/23’s top scoring goalkeeper with 166.

Kieran Trippier – Newcastle (£6.5) | Defender

Fantasy Premier League is a fullback’s game. Not only do they get clean sheet points, but also assists and goals. No defender collected more points than Newcastle skipper Kieran Trippier’s 198. The right-back will hope to improve on his nine assists and one goal while it’s hard to envision Newcastle’s defence dropping off too much.

Pervis Estupinan, Brighton (£5.0) | Defender

Brighton’s bombing Ecuadorian left-back, Pervis Estupinan, might be one of the steals of the season at £5.0. An incredible attacking talent who will no doubt build on seven assists and one goal after a full pre-season with Roberto De Zerbi. He may well top the points scoring charts by the end of the season.

Martin Odegaard, Arsenal (£8.5) | Midfielder

Arsenal’s captain was the second highest scoring midfielder last year with 212 points after a career year saw him nab 15 goals and eight assists. With Arsenal bolstering their midfield options, further freeing Odegaard up to increasing his creative and goalscoring output in a side looking to solidify its title credentials.

Bryan Mbeumo, Brentford (£6.5) | Midfielder

There are plenty of midfield options to choose from. With that in mind, Bryan Mbeumo may seem like a strange selection but hear me out. Ivan Toney is set to miss so much football. His replacement, Bryan Mbeumo, scored 150 points in FPL 22/23. This total is likely to increase as he looks to emulate some of Toney’s form this coming season. A midfielder collecting striker points is too perfect to resist.

Erling Haaland, Manchester City (£14.0) | Striker

Only three other players – Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Robin Van Persie – have begun an FPL season at £14.0. Erling Haaland deservedly joins that list after a record-breaking 36 goal haul in his debut season in England. For his efforts, the Norwegian collected an incredible 272 points, including 40 bonus points. Not ony should Haaland be the first player in your FPL 23/24 team, he should also be captained every single week.

Evan Ferguson, Brighton (£6.0) | Striker

Irishman Evan Ferguson is perhaps not the name many expected on this list, especially when you consider the striking talent left out – Harry Kane, Gabriel Jesus and Ollie Watkins among them. However, fantasy premier league is about drafting the best squad. In order to do that, you need to select wisely to maximise your side.

Ferguson is the perfect striker to do so. He managed a relatively small 65 points last season. However, this was amassed over just ten games. If you were to stretch his average points haul (6.5) over 38 games, the young striker would have finished the 22/23 FPL season with 247 – the third most of any player.

In terms of bang your buck there is perhaps no better option than Evan Ferguson.
