Tom Brady may have retired from football, but he hasn’t retired from our screens because he’s set to star alongside some Hollywood legends in the upcoming film 80 For Brady.
Based on a true story, 80 For Brady follows the story of a group of 80-something-year-old women on a quest to see Tom Brady play in the 2017 Super Bowl.
“Inspired by the true story of four best friends living life to the fullest when they take a wild trip to the 2017 Super Bowl LI to see their hero Tom Brady play,” the synopsis reads.
When is 80 For Brady released?
The film was released exclusively in cinemas in the US and Canada on February 3, just ahead of the 2023 Super Bowl. However, an international release date is still TBD.

If you thought Tom Brady was the biggest name attached to the film, think again because he is joined by major Hollywood stars including Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno and Sally Field in this all-star lineup fit for a Super Bowl.
If the main cast wasn’t already enough to get you excited, the film also includes cameos from huge names like Guy Fieri, Billy Porter, Harry Hamlin and Rob Gronkowski.

What is the true story behind the film?
The film is actually based on the true story of the “Over 80 for Brady” fan club, which consisted of five women over the age of eighty, who were diehard Patriots fans.
According to Time, the Over 80 for Brady club was made up of Betty Pensavalle, Elaine St. Martin, Anita Riccio, Pat Marx, and Claire Boardman — with Pensavalle’s grandson initially pitching their story for the Hollywood treatment.
“We started watching together, Elaine and me,” Pensavalle told Time, noting that the tradition was sparked after their husbands (also Patriots fans) passed away.
“Then we added Anita then we added Claire and Pat. We were good friends. We had known each other for years and we were all widows.”
Pensavalle and St Martin are now 94 and 95, respectively. Riccio and Marx are living in an assisted living facility, while Boardman sadly passed away in 2022.
Sadly, the real life Over 80 for Brady fan club never made it to a Super Bowl, but they did receive a personalised video message from Brady asking to turn their story into a Hollywood film — which is probably just as good.
