UFC Sydney

Here’s everything you need to know about the UFC Sydney arrangement.

If it feels like its been a lifetime since Sydney was blessed with a UFC event. That’s because it has been.

The UFC hasn’t been to Sydney since 2017. But thankfully, fans won’t have to wait much longer to get amongst the action. The harbour city will have three pay-per-view events between now and 2027.

“Australians are some of the most passionate fight fans in the world and we know these Sydney events are going to be massive,” said UFC President Dana White.

“Sydney was the first Australian city to host a UFC Pay Per View, and we are going to bring incredible events every time we come back over the next four years.”

An Israel Adesanya and Rob Whittaker trilogy may well headline the first UFC Sydney event.

NSW Premier Chris Minns backed the UFC Sydney deal in a press conference earlier this week.

“UFC is a massive sport. This is a big win for UFC fans and the state’s economy,” he said. “Thousands of people will fly into our state to see the biggest UFC events in Sydney in more than a decade.

“Some of the best Aussie UFC fighters were born and bred right here in NSW.

“It’s about time that we have a major UFC event back in Sydney, so local fans can watch our home-grown talent.

“We are delivering on another election commitment – one that is a major coup for NSW.”

When is the next UFC Sydney event?

SEPTEMBER 10

The first of three UFC events coming to Sydney is sooner than you may think, coming on September 10. Here’s the latest on that event, that’s set to involve megastar Israel Adesanya, perhaps Rob Whittaker and – nothing surer – a stack of Aussies.

UFC293 will take place in Sydney on September 10. Adesanya will face off against the winner of UFC290; either Dricus du Plessis or Robert Whittaker.

A venue is yet to be confirmed but Adesanya has hinted that he wants the event to take place at a stadium.

“I feel like Perth, Islam versus Volk, I remember feeling frustrated,” Adesanya said.

“I even talked to Mick (Maynard, UFC matchmaker) and said ‘why wasn’t this fight in a stadium?” he said.

“But this one, yeah, it will be a nice day. It can be in Sydney, I like Sydney.

“It will be a nice day.”

Qudos Bank Arena and CommBank Stadium are among the venues reportedly being considered for the fight.

And the other UFC Sydney events?

It’s too early to say just yet.

Reiterating, there will be three major events between now and 2027; the first in September.

Alex Volkanovski is one of the greatest UFC fighters Australia has produced.

It’s safe to assume the UFC will be motivated to have Aussie Alex Volkanovski, one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet, headline one of the UFC Sydney events. Australia has produced several high profile, hard-hitting draw-cards to the franchise over the years and it’s great to see some reciprocation with this arrangement.

When can I get tickets to the UFC Sydney event?

Tickets aren’t on sale just yet, but pre-registration will soon be available on the UFC Sydney website. VIP packages will also be available for purchase via UFC VIP.

For those looking to travel to Sydney for the event, you can purchase travel packages via Sportsnet Holidays.

What was the last UFC Sydney fight?

The last UFC Fight Night in Sydney was on November 19, 2017 at Qudos Bank Arena between Fabricio Werdum and Marcin Tybura.

However, the last UFC pay-per-view event in Sydney was UFC127 between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch way back in 2011.
