Some days, sport just doesn’t matter.
While Golden State are preparing to potentially close out the Western Conference finals in Dallas, he once again used his platform for a cause far more important than a game.
Here is his incredibly raw response to news of another shooting in the United States, where at least 18 elementary students and a teacher were gunned down in Uvalde, Texas.
Watch Steve Kerr’s address:

It’s not the first time Kerr has spoken out on matters broader and bigger than basketball. He had a reasonably public feud with former President Donald Trump just last year. NBA media sums up a number of his previous crusades here.
Gun violence is an issue particularly close to Kerr’s heart. The Golden State coach and former NBA player’s father Malcolm was murdered by two gunmen in 1984.
Since then, Kerr has seen far too many innocent lives taken by people with firearms. Frankly, we all have.
