Acting superstar Owen Wilson is set to star in an Apple TV+ show focusing on a down-on-his-luck golfer trying to turn things around.

Ted Lasso was one of the biggest shows of the 2020s. Starring comedic acting extraordinaire Jason Sudeikis, the show experienced unparalleled levels of success, bringing a humorous edge to a topic otherwise viewed through a rather serious lens; sport.

Now, Apple TV+ is teaming up with another megastar of the comedic acting world, Owen Wilson. Only this time, the sport they chose to centre their series around isn’t football, but golf.

Said to be inspired by Ted Lasso’s success, there appears to be a lot to love about the show, even with so few details available.

When will the show be released?

It remains unclear when the show, which at this stage remains untitled, will be released for streaming. However, we’ll be sure to update you when we have more clarity on this date.

Is there a trailer?

At this stage, no. When one is released, we’ll be sure to update you.

What is the show about?

According to an Apple TV+ press release, the 10-episode comedy series follows Wilson’s character, Pryce Cahill. Cahill is an ‘over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago.’

Cahill loses his job at an Indiana sports store and his wife walks out on him, highlighting the downward trajectory his life is heading on. However, with the hope of recovering his past glory, Pryce goes all in on a troubled teenage golfing prodigy.

As much as the series aims to mirror Ted Lasso’s achievements, to us it feels heavily influenced by the storyline of Happy Gilmore. Regardless of the show’s influences, there’s no doubt it has the recipe to be successful in an increasingly competitive streaming market.

Who’s the team behind the show?

Outside of Owen Wilson, who not only stars in the show but also executive produces it, there is an extensive catalogue of exceptional people behind the untitled show.

Alongside Wilson, Propagate Content’s Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens and Rodney Ferrells, as well as Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady, Piece of Work’s Lee Eisenberg and Natalie Sandy, Chris Moynihan, Jason Keller and Bill Callahan serve as executive producers.

Keller’s most notable work is the hit 2019 film, Ford v Ferrari, starring Christiano Bale, Matt Damon and Josh Lucas, for which he’s credited as a writer. Alongside executive producing the series, Keller also created and wrote the show.

An Apple Studios production, the series will be directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Falls, whose notable work includes Fleishman is in Trouble, Little Miss Sunshine and Battle of the Sexes. The latter film, starring Emma Stone and Steve Carrell, highlights the pair’s proficiency with regards to producing top-level sports entertainment content.
