Football’s coming quick. NFL football, that is.
Teams are really ramping up in their respective training camps, ahead of the first round of pre-season action this weekend.
That means the NFL, with HBO, will be dropping the first episode of the annual mini series Hard Knocks, which gets up, close and personal with an NFL franchise’s season preparations; this year featuring the Detroit Lions. And while the Lions are a franchise heavily deprived of past success in the League, they shape as a fun team on the rise this season.
So will it be another season of ‘rebuilding’ in Detroit this year, with a win total you can count on one hand? Ask what veteran running back Jamaal Williams thinks of that.
If you didn’t see this video earlier of @Lions RB Jamaal Williams breaking down the huddle, it’s so good.

I’d take this dude on my team everyday of the week. pic.twitter.com/PJECKfNhXe
So who else is ready to run through a brick wall for Jamaal?
This clip is rightfully doing the rounds and it’ll be interesting to see what Hard Knocks picks up on this team before the real stuff kicks off – they host the Eagles in Week 1 on September 12.

Detroit appears to be on a promising path. The front office looks to be on a more methodical team-building trajectory, spending resources ‘inside-out’ – solidifying its offensive and defensive lines. They’ve found some skill position gems as well, ready to potentially insert a promising young quarterback into a fertile environment next off-season (current QB Jared Goff isn’t the long-term answer).
But to land a high first-round Draft pick for next year, they can’t win too many games this upcoming campaign. So maybe they need to ask Jamaal Williams to say less.
