Prospect or Monstar? Get set for an NBA tank-a-thon

wembanyama

‘A more advanced alien than Giannis has arrived on our planet.’

ESPN’s Steve Smith summed it up as well as anyone.

He’s referring to a 2.2 metre 18-year-old from France called Victor Wembanyama.

Outside of some freakish unexpected event, the 7’2″ prospect will be the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Wembenyama just made an utterly terrifying US debut; he plays for Paris side Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92, going up against G League Ignite, a developmental side affiliated with the NBA G League.

The Ignite outfit features fellow top prospect Scoot Henderson and they actually took bragging rights over the French club, 122-115.

Henderson, who put up 28 points and nine assists in the showdown, is currently projected to be drafted right behind Wembanyama at second overall.

The French phenomenon’s numbers were even more insane than Scoot’s; he tallied 37 points with seven threes, four rebounds and five blocks. Wembanyama’s stroke from beyond the arc, at that size, has the basketball world stunned.

The NBA season isn’t far off now and several teams are expected to be really bad; Utah, San Antonio and Josh Giddey’s Oklahoma City Thunder to name a few. Along with a few others, those star-deprived franchises will be in the mix for the top picks in next year’s NBA lottery, an event that is set to be even more history-altering than normal.
