A 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card is set to smash records.
Coincidentally nicknamed The Commerce Comet, Mantle was a New York Yankees sensation in the 1950s-60s, regarded as one of the best hitters in Major League history.
It’s surfaced that a piece of mint condition Mantle memorabilia is now open for auction, which will finish on August 27, with an estimated price tag of around $10 million USD ($14M AUD).
It’s understood this Mantle rookie edition is the finest copy of this Topps card in existence.
It will go for well beyond $6.6M US, the current record – a 1909 Honus Wagner card that sold a year ago. Current bidding for the Mantle collector’s item is already over $5M.
Widespread interest this far in advance certainly won’t do anything to diminish its value.

New Jersey owner Anthony Giordano bought the card for $50,000 US in 1991, four years before Hall of Famer Mantle’s death. The 75-year-old entrepreneur told the Associated Press it’s time to give the card a new home.
