The AFL Draft Combine has wrapped up for 2022, with the country’s top draft prospects showing their credentials. However, the most notable performance of the Combine wasn’t an athletic one, but a display of pure sportsmanship.
Oakleigh Chargers utility Max Gruzewski is at the centre of AFL draft discussion after the Combine concluded yesterday, with the 193cm prospect coming to the aid of a Vic Metro teammate at the end of the 2km time trial.
Lewis Hayes, brother of Port Adelaide’s Sam and a 197cm key defensive prospect, collapsed from exhaustion nearing the finish line of the time trial, but Gruzewski stopped to aid Hayes over the finish line, sacrificing his own result.
