Australian Eleanor Patterson has just won women’s high jump gold at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Patterson equaled Nicola Olyslagers’ Australian and Oceana Record of 2.02m in the high jump final, a personal best for the Victorian as well. Olyslagers (who previously competed as Nicola McDermott) finished equal fifth, clearing 1.96m.

Patterson, who finished fifth in the final at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, became just the 10th Australian to claim World Athletics Championships gold.
The 26-year-old grew up in the South Gippsland town of Leongatha, Victoria.
She is quite clearly primed for a strong tilt at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games straight after this and perhaps the 2024 Paris Olympics, which are only two years away.
