What always makes a shoe more appealing and fascinating is the story behind it.
But when there’s a movie dictating the design, just like the upcoming Nike Air Jordan 1 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it’s a whole new ball game.
For the second time in Jordan Brand history, the iconic franchise are collaborating with Marvel on a sneaker based on their animated Spider-Man films with the sequel ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ coming to theatres in early June.
But before the movie drops across the globe, Jordan Brand will be releasing their collab Air Jordan 1 High OG ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ shoe, with high demand expected following the popularity of the first edition back in 2018.
They haven’t deterred from what made them so sought after with the classic ‘Chicago’ colourway being the primary look once again for the upcoming release along with the comic-book inspired patterns.
This sneaker has been on our list of the hotly anticipated Nike & Jordan releases in 2023 since February and with the release now just around the corner, let’s have a look at what we know so far about the Air Jordan 1 High OG Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
When are the Air Jordan 1 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sneakers being released and how much will they cost?
The Spider-Man Jordan’s, as they are commonly referred to, will be released as an alternative form of promotion for the upcoming film it is designed after on May 20.
The film will be premiered 12 days later on June 1 here in Australia but don’t expect any to be selling for retail price by that time. The sneakers are predicted to be a hot commodity based off the hype its predecessor, the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Origin Story’, got.
It is being reported that the sneaker will be listed at the retail price of $200 USD ($300 AUD) and will be available via the SNKRS app and other select sneaker retailers.
What are the details on the Air Jordan 1 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?
Following suit from the first edition of the collab between the animated Spider-Man movies and Jordan Brand, the all-time classic combination of the Air Jordan 1 silhouette and the ‘Chicago’ colourway is back.
But what has made these Spider-Man sneakers so popular is the use of a comic book inspired aesthetic with circular features that replicate the motion-smearing animation style used in the films.
Different materials across the Air Jordan 1 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is something that wasn’t present on the release back in 2018, with an interesting translucent red rubber outsole giving the shoe a shiny touch.
However, Jordan Brand have made an active effort to still keep the slight look of the iconic 1985 Air Jordan 1 ‘Chicago’, whilst creating a more colourful and Spider-Man oriented appeal.
The ‘Origin Story’ which was the 2018 release for the first ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ film only had a few differences from 1985 pair with a clear sole and blue ‘Nike Air’ tag on the tongue to name a couple.
Like the ‘Origin Story’, this sneaker will still be a hightop Jordan 1 which is widely considered the best Jordan shoe of all time.
What are sneaker-heads saying about this drop?
There has been mixed feelings about the Air Jordan 1 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with sneaker-heads liking the look of second edition of the Jordan x Spider-Man shoes, but not as much as the first ones.
It seems to be due to the fact that it isn’t as subtle as the 2018 release, which looked very similar to the classic ‘Chicago’ colourway.
Many notable YouTubers have made videos about the upcoming drop, with some speaking on rumours circling that there could be a ‘shock drop’ before the official release on May 20.
