Following last season’s success, fans of Hollywood’s football fan club are gearing up for Welcome to Wrexham Season 2.
The hit series’ debut season followed Wrexham AFC, the oldest football club in Wales and third-oldest side in the world, on their journey through the fifth tier of English football – The National League.
Despite being a semi-professional side, Wrexham AFC was able to capture the hearts and support of millions around the world, thanks in no small part to their owners.
Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds, of Deadpool fame, and Rob McElhenney, noted for his role as Mac in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, completed their takeover of the northern Welsh outfit in February 2021.
The following season, the 2021-22 National League season, was the subject of the show’s second season, resulting in a 20-person camera crew follow the side around as they rode the highs and lows of fighting for promotion to the professional game and making international superstars out of otherwise unsuspecting non-league footballers, including striker Paul Mullin.
Welcome to Wrexham’s first season’s success was not limited to the football world, with the series winning the Best Ongoing Documentary at the Critics’ Choice Awards last November.
