Netflix World Cup

It feels like we’re getting a Drive to Survive-esque docuseries for every sport under the sun at this point, and football is no exception. So it should come as no surprise to see that a Netflix World Cup docuseries chronicling the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is due for release later this year.

Netflix announced the new series in January as part of a slate of sporting documentaries that will hit the platform throughout 2023. The streaming giant also announced a Six Nations documentary at the same time.

What is the new Netflix World Cup docuseries called?

Netflix is yet to release an official title for its upcoming FIFA World Cup series, although, it is currently using the working title World Cup: The Greatest Show On Earth, which sounds promising.

We’ll be sure to update you when a title is announced.

When will it be released?

The Netflix World Cup series will be released at some point in Winter 2023. An exact release date is yet to be announced but we’ll be sure to update you when it is.

What will it cover?

The new series will feature exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage from every team involved in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. While Netflix’s series will cover Argentina’s victory — and the monumental achievement this was for football GOAT Lionel Messi — it is understood that this is not the same docuseries Messi is working on about his own career.

So basically, we can expect at least two different docos on Messi’s incredible World Cup victory.

Netflix has remained pretty tight-lipped on what exactly the series will cover, so it is unclear if the documentary will dive into the human rights issues that plagued the Qatar World Cup, or if it will focus purely on the football itself.

The series is produced by Fulwell 73 (The Late Late Show with James Corden) in partnership with FIFA+.

Is there a trailer for the Netflix World Cup series?

There is no trailer for the upcoming series yet, but we can expect one in the coming months. Check back later for a sneak peek at the Netflix World Cup docuseries.

Which other sporting documentaries can I watch while I wait?

Sadly, we’ll have to wait a few more months before the World Cup docuseries debuts on Netflix, but there’s no shortage of other sporting documentaries to keep you entertained while you wait.

In addition to the OG, Formula 1: Drive to Survive, there is also Break Point (tennis), The Test (cricket), Make or Break (surfing), Welcome to Wrexham (football), as well as an upcoming Netflix project on Le Tour De France.
