If you’re looking for something to fill the football-shaped void in your heart as we await the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup, you’re in luck because Disney+ is about to drop Matildas: The World at Our Feet.
Matildas: The World at Our Feet is a six-part docu-series following players such as Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter as they work towards their very first World Cup on home soil.
“Football Australia is thrilled to partner with Disney+ to showcase the incredible journey of our national women’s football team, the CommBank Matildas, as they prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023,” Football Australia CEO James Johnson said.
“We believe that ‘Matildas: The World at Our Feet’ will inspire and captivate audiences around the world, as it highlights the resilience, passion and dedication of our players, and celebrates the growth and success of women’s football in Australia.”
It follows a long list of sports docu-series hitting streaming platforms, which we’ve been all over right here.
When is Matildas: The World at Our Feet released?
Matildas: The World at Our Feet will drop exclusively on Disney+ on April 26, 2023 — adding to the platform’s slate of womens’ sport documentaries including Fearless: The Inside Story of the AFLW.
The Matildas are coming off a Cup of Nations win.
Is there a trailer?
Disney+ has finally dropped a trailer for Matildas: The World at Our Feet. You can watch it below.
Which Matildas are involved?
The docuseries follows the team in preparation for the World Cup, which means all of your favourite players like Hayley Raso, Steph Catley, Mary Fowler and Katrina Gorry are all involved — among many others.
And, of course, it wouldn’t be a docu-series on the Matildas without the team captain Sam Kerr, who was recently named the most influential woman in Australian sport.
In a statement released as part of the series announcement, Kerr raved about the experience of filming their story.
“It’s been an incredible experience sharing our journeys with Disney+, both on the field and off, and I can’t wait for the world to see our true love, dedication and passion for the game and our country,” she said.
