Led by producer Chris Appleby and powered by neds, Mad Rise will detail the emergence of basketball in Australia came off the back of a ‘golden era’ that not enough sports fans know about.
Several high profile basketballing greats paved the way for a new wave of stars that are now taking the NBA and NBL by storm.
Interest in the Boomers has never been higher, a couple of years after their historic Olympic bronze. And the group is about to embark on a FIBA World Cup campaign that has the potential to end in more silverware.
The team will be led by rising sensation Josh Giddey, plus veteran and national treasure Patty Mills. Josh Green, Jock Landale and Matisse Thybulle – all quality NBA contributors – will also play vital roles in the team’s chances.

The new Boomers documentary is being sold as ‘the story of Australian basketball’ and like the title suggests, it details the sport’s rapid rise down under.
Here’s the bio: Mad Rise is a landmark documentary feature, charting the remarkable rise of Australian basketball. See and hear the real stories of the players and coaches that were responsible for the sport’s ascendancy, and the events that changed Australian basketball forever.
“There was a time when our national team was on the cusp of greatness,” Andrew Gaze is quoted as saying in the docco.
And that’s a strong indication of what we can expect the release to dive into in more detail.
Who is featured in the new Boomers documentary
Based on the promos, it looks as though the hoops greats featured are Chris Anstey, Luc Longley, Andrew Bogut and Andrew Gaze, plus others.
